BRITISH High Commissioner Kanbar Hossein-Bor recently hosted an art reception and exhibition aimed at celebrating Fiji’s vibrant creative community while also raising awareness for the campaign to eliminate violence against women and girls.

During the event, Minister for Women Sashi Kiran addressed the audience, emphasizing that violence against women manifests in various interconnected forms, all stemming from issues of power, control, and gender inequality. She highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing these critical societal concerns.

The reception also saw the presence of Online Safety Commissioner Filipe Batiwale, alongside notable local artists such as Laisa Vulakoro, often referred to as the Queen of Vude, artist Liz Vamarasi, and the rising Fijian rapper Sam Kurikitoga, known artistically as Mr Sam. Their participation underscored the cultural significance of the event and its alignment with broader efforts to combat gender-based violence in the community.

This initiative not only showcases artistic talent from Fiji but also reinforces the message that creativity can be a powerful vehicle for social change, encouraging dialogue and awareness around issues that affect women and girls. The arts can provide a platform for expression and healing, highlighting the ongoing commitment to creating a safer, more equitable society for all.
