Weather Update

Good morning, Fiji! It’s that time of year again – the kind of weather that makes you question the forecast and your life choices. An impressive HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still in effect for the entire Fiji group, so don’t forget your umbrella, raincoat, and possibly a boat!

What’s brewing in our atmospheric kitchen? An active trough of low pressure has decided to settle in and hang out with us until tomorrow. It seems to really enjoy the rain and occasional thunderstorms, just like an uninvited guest who brings soggy snacks.

Forecast for today, December 31, 2025 (more lively than your New Year’s Eve party!): Expect a generous serving of occasional rain, heavy at times, with side dishes of thunderstorms across most areas. It’s not just drizzle; we’re talking about localised heavy falls that could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone spots. So, if you see water flowing where it shouldn’t be, don’t worry; that’s just nature’s way of showing off!

Winds will be on the moderate to fresh side, coming from the north-northwest, and it might feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride at the beach with moderate to rough seas. Fancy that!

Now, here’s a sneak peek for our friends tomorrow (Thursday), who might be mulling over their New Year’s resolutions. Rain will still be the star of the show, but it’s expected to ease a bit from the west later in the day. So, everyone’s favorite thunderstorms are back again, and they have quite the dramatic flair!

Here’s a breakdown of how your regions will fare today:

For the Navua/Suva/Nausori trio, it’s occasional rain and a few rumbles of thunder – like the background music to your day. Min: 24, Max: 29.

For Natadradave/Korovou, occasional rain and some thunder are on the agenda, too. Min: 24, Max: 29.

The Sigatoka/Coral Coast pair can expect similar weather patterns, perfect for puddle jumping. Min: 24, Max: 30.

Nadi/Lautoka/Ba will also enjoy the occasional rain with a few thunderstorms to keep things lively. Tomorrow’s forecast is the same, just with a chance of easing rain. Min: 23, Max: 30.

Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca…you get the idea! Rain is the theme, folks, with many places hitting a max of 29-31 degrees.

For our northern stars, Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni – rest assured, you’ll get a healthy dose of that charming rain today, with max temperatures in the range of 29-31 degrees.

Don’t forget about the Lau and Lomaiviti group and Kadavu; they’re also getting in on the rain game!

Finally, Rotuma, with the rain alert still active for you: It’s a heavy rain situation with gusty winds and even more thunderstorms. Minimum temperature hangs around 25 while you can boast a max of 30 degrees.

In summary, stay cozy, grab those rain boots, and maybe even plan an indoor movie marathon because it looks like Mother Nature is throwing a party whether we like it or not!
