Fiji has begun a new chapter in enhancing its maritime security as it welcomes the first installment of maritime safety equipment from Japan. This handover, part of Japan’s Official Security Assistance initiative, occurred recently and was officiated by Mr. Mason Smith, Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veteran Affairs, representing the Fijian Government.
The initial delivery includes critical tools for the Fiji Navy, such as a rescue boat, an underwater camera, and a training mannequin, all aimed at improving operational readiness.
