Fiji and Australia are enhancing their security cooperation to tackle growing regional threats, as confirmed during a recent high-level meeting in Canberra between Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Australian Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke. The discussions centered on strengthening joint initiatives against transnational crime, drug and people trafficking, and cyber threats, while also establishing closer operational ties between Fiji’s police, immigration, and military with their Australian counterparts.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed Fiji’s dedication to regional security, highlighting the importance of their partnership to safeguard the Pacific region. Minister Burke commended Fiji’s leadership and assured that Australia is prepared to enhance collaboration in facing emerging security challenges.

Meanwhile, ACT Attorney-General Tara Cheyne welcomed the Prime Minister, highlighting that this visit reaffirms the strength of the Vuvale Partnership, underscoring a commitment to shared priorities, including climate resilience.
