Fiji Airways has welcomed a new addition to its fleet with the acquisition of an ATR72-600 series aircraft. The delivery of this plane was celebrated on Christmas Eve in Toulouse, France, where it was photographed as part of its handover process. The handover was facilitated by Airplane Xperts, a French company, which expressed gratitude to Fiji Airways for this successful delivery.

In a message posted on LinkedIn, Airplane Xperts reported, “Vinaka Vakalevu to our friends at Fiji Airways for the successful delivery of an ATR 72-600, MSN 1707… The aircraft is now on its long way to its new home and should arrive next week.” They acknowledged the support from the ATR team in managing the production and timely delivery of the aircraft right before the holiday season.

The new aircraft is part of a lease agreement signed by Fiji Airways in August 2024 for three additional ATR72-600s from Nordic Aviation Capital. Currently, Fiji Airways operates two ATR72-600s via its domestic subsidiary, Fiji Link. These turboprop planes serve not only domestic routes but also connect to destinations such as Port Vila in Vanuatu, Funafuti in Tuvalu, and Tongatapu and Vava’u in Tonga.

This acquisition signifies Fiji Airways’ commitment to enhancing its operations and expanding its connectivity across the region, which can be seen as a promising development for travel in the South Pacific.

In summary, the acquisition of the ATR72-600 plane represents a significant step for Fiji Airways, demonstrating their growth and dedication to improving air travel in the region. It provides hope for the future of travel in the area, especially in light of the ongoing recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
