A total of 18 evacuation centres have been activated in the Northern Division as a precaution against severe weather threats, particularly flooding. This includes 12 schools, three community halls, and three private residences designated to provide shelter for those living in flood-prone areas in Vanua Levu. Residents are strongly encouraged to move to the nearest evacuation centre and stay tuned to emergency services for updates.

In an effort to ensure safety, the government has provided essential emergency contact numbers for Fijians to utilize in times of crisis. These include:
– 910 for the National Fire Authority
– 913 for Energy Fiji Limited
– 917 for the Fiji Police Force
– 5777 for the Water Authority of Fiji
– 5720 for the Fiji Roads Authority
– 8811322 for the Divisional Emergency Operations Centre
– 9994261 for the Commissioner of the Northern Division

The designated evacuation centres serving the public include notable locations such as Sukanaivalu Primary School, Holy Cross College, and Saqani High School, among others.

The establishment of these centres reflects a well-coordinated response to the ongoing weather threats, demonstrating the community’s proactive measures in safeguarding residents during this challenging time. This initiative echoes previous efforts in the Western Division, where food rations and other resources are being distributed to support evacuees, highlighting the spirit of solidarity among various agencies and organizations.

As the weather continues to pose risks, communities are encouraged to remain vigilant, cooperate with safety protocols, and trust in the collaborative efforts that foster resilience. By coming together, Fijians can navigate these difficulties with hope and unity, ensuring that everyone receives the necessary support during this time of need.
