Fiji Airways Fiji 7s assistant coach Vilame Satala is set to lead the men’s team at the Oceania Sevens tournament taking place this weekend in Honiara, Solomon Islands. After four weeks of rigorous training, Satala expressed excitement for the competition ahead.

In a notable development, Satala has included five debutants in his squad, such as Lasaro Bogisa, Iosefo Namoce, and Alipate Nabiu. Namoce has been playing as a centre for Suva in this year’s Skipper Cup competition, adding to his growing experience. Satala highlighted the importance of seasoned players, stating, “The experienced players will lead from the front in a big tournament like the Oceania. We need the experienced players.”

Prominent names among the team’s seasoned players include Kavekini Kabu, Timoci Na-kausa, and Manueli Maisamoa. This strategic mix of youth and experience sets the stage for a thrilling tournament.

This year marks a historic occasion as the Solomon Islands host the Oceania tournament for the first time, scheduled for December 7-8. The event will showcase a competitive lineup of 15 men’s and nine women’s teams, featuring a total of 58 matches over two days. Notably, new participants Niue and Kiribati will make their debut in the women’s division, signaling a bright future for rugby development in the region.

Overall, with a combination of fresh talent and experienced players, Fiji’s participation in the Oceania Sevens promises to be an exciting and engaging tournament for fans and players alike. The event not only highlights the achievements of established teams but also emphasizes the growth and inclusion of emerging rugby nations.
