The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has initiated a specialized taskforce to delve into the findings of an audit concerning Walesi. This announcement follows the receipt of the audit report from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

During a recent session in Parliament, it was revealed that the government allocated a substantial $123.6 million for the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Project, aimed at supporting the operations of Walesi PTE LTD from 2015 to 2022. FICAC has underscored the significance of this case, labeling it as one of national interest.

Commissioner Barbara Malimali has appointed Assistant Manager of Investigation – Economic Crimes Unit, Alifereti Wakanivesi, to lead the taskforce, which has already begun its investigative work today.

This investigation illustrates a commitment to transparency and accountability in government spending, highlighting the importance of scrutinizing projects that impact the nation’s digital infrastructure. FICAC’s proactive approach demonstrates a dedication to upholding public trust and ensuring that funds earmarked for significant initiatives are managed appropriately.

In the wake of this investigation, there is hope for enhanced oversight and governance in Fiji’s public sector, potentially leading to better resource management and improved public services in the future.
