On Christmas Day, six individuals have been taken into custody by the Fiji Police Force in connection with alleged marijuana possession. These arrests are part of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address drug-related activities during the festive season.
In the Southern Division, police apprehended a 38-year-old unemployed man in Nabua, Suva, after discovering seven sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 24-year-old unemployed individual was arrested during a raid in Qauia, Lami, where he was allegedly found with a branch of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Another arrest involved a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, who was reportedly in possession of 20 sachets of dried leaves similarly believed to be marijuana.
Furthermore, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were detained at Valelevu, Nasinu, after allegedly possessing two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance that is believed to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was also arrested for allegedly having five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana wrapped in aluminum foil.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that police will remain vigilant against opportunists in picnic spots and communities as they continue their drug enforcement operations during this period.
