Thirteen individuals were taken into custody yesterday for possessing illegal drugs in a series of police operations across various locations. Notably, a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard were apprehended at the Nadonumai Roadblock with small plastic bags containing white crystals.
In another case, four individuals were arrested in Waiyavi, Lautoka, during a police raid on their residence, where officers discovered not only white crystals but also smoking gear and cash believed to be earnings from drug sales.
Additional arrests include a 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto, caught at Sanasana ground with six bags of white crystals, and a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, found with seven branches of what is suspected to be marijuana at the Ciri Junction bus shelter.
A 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was arrested at the Nadi Bus Stand with 161 branches of suspected marijuana, alongside cash believed to be from drug transactions. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was caught at the Ba Market Area with eight sachets of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu stated that these arrests were part of a Festive Season initiative, emphasizing that more arrests are anticipated as law enforcement continues its efforts to combat drug-related crimes.
