With inflation on the rise and community needs escalating, the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji) is taking significant steps to diversify its funding sources. Nirmala Nambiar, the National Executive Coordinator, highlighted that while the organization has greatly appreciated the support from the government over the years—which has ranged between $100,000 and $300,000—there is now a pressing need to seek additional funding avenues to maintain essential programs.
The foundation recognizes that relying solely on governmental grants is no longer a sustainable strategy amid rising living costs. Nambiar emphasizes the urgency for increased financial support as inflation impacts the community’s economic landscape. “Everything is increasing,” she noted, reinforcing the necessity for expanded funding to continue their invaluable work.
In addition to seeking alternative funding, Nambiar is calling on parents to take a more active role in managing their financial situations. She urges transparency about their circumstances to ensure that assistance is effectively directed to those who are most in need.
FENC Fiji is already initiating collaborations with donor partners, including entities from New Zealand, with projects designed to generate the additional funds required to support their vital services. These proactive measures not only aim to secure the foundation’s future but also reflect a commitment to better serve the community during challenging economic times. The initiative holds promise for generating a sustainable impact, fostering resilience as the organization adapts to the changing financial landscape.
