The FBI has identified a 62-year-old Canadian man wanted on allegations of child sexual abuse in the United States and warned he may be sailing in the Pacific near Fiji. The suspect, named by investigators as Donald Steven Lang, is accused of sexually abusing a child in Idaho between 2003 and 2007 and was last seen in Hawaii in January 2025 aboard a sailboat named ISHI, the agency said.

Lang is described as a white male about 5 feet 8 inches tall with light brown or gray hair and blue eyes. Investigators say he has several tattoos, including a faded conch shell on his right arm with the word “captain” above it. The FBI said Lang is known to sail around the world and that Hawaii has served as his “home base,” but that he frequently travels by sea and has connections to multiple jurisdictions.

Authorities warned the public Lang could be moving along a number of Pacific routes. The FBI said he may be sailing somewhere between Hawaii and Fiji, between Hawaii and Mexico, or heading toward Papua New Guinea or Indonesia. Investigators listed additional known connections to Idaho, Washington, California, the Marquesas Islands, Mexico and Canada, underscoring the transnational nature of the search.

The agency has offered a US$5,000 reward for information leading to Lang’s arrest and has called on anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to contact the FBI. The statement did not specify formal charges or the status of any arrest warrant but framed the alert as part of an ongoing effort to locate a suspect in a historical child-abuse allegation.

The bulletin will be closely watched in the Pacific region, where concerns about child safety and missing persons have been high on the public agenda. Fiji saw 324 recorded instances of child sexual abuse in the first half of 2024, according to statistics presented to parliament, and local human-rights bodies have recently urged stronger national mechanisms — including a taskforce for missing persons and improved child protection responses.

Local authorities in countries where Lang is believed to have ties could be asked to assist if actionable leads develop. For now, the FBI’s update represents the latest development in an international search for a maritime fugitive: the bureau has narrowed identity and travel details to mobilise public help and regional awareness, while offering a modest reward to encourage tips. Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI.
