The Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, recently held a productive meeting with the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and senior management of the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited (FBCL). The discussion revolved around the Corporation’s performance, strategic direction, and future objectives.

During the session, Minister Singh was informed about FBCL’s ambitious vision to establish itself as the premier multimedia hub in Fiji and the broader Pacific region. The Board shared that radio remains the dominant medium in terms of daily audience share in Fiji, even as television and digital platforms continue to gain popularity.

Minister Singh was also updated on initiatives such as the Pacific Multimedia Academy and its drone operator certification program. This initiative is designed to enhance technical skills within the media sector, which the Minister recognized as a vital investment in developing local talent and upholding professional standards in both broadcasting and digital media.

He commended the Corporation’s efforts to reduce its reliance on the Public Service Broadcast Grant, showcasing a commitment to financial responsibility, self-sufficiency, and effective strategic planning. The Minister underscored the importance of public enterprises staying aligned with their core mandates while ensuring robust governance and profitability.

This proactive approach taken by FBCL reflects a dedicated effort not only to enhance its media offerings but also to contribute positively to the local economy and the media landscape in the Pacific region. The ongoing developments signal a promising future for Fiji’s broadcasting sector, focusing on innovation and capacity building.
