A woman in her 60s from Buca Village has tragically become the latest road fatality in the country following a serious motor vehicle accident near Nasue Settlement in Vunilagi, Savusavu. The accident took place on Tuesday morning when a vehicle operated by a 43-year-old driver veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a collision with another vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man.

The woman was a passenger in the vehicle and was traveling alongside two children, aged 6 and 15. All three were quickly transported to Savusavu Hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, medical officials later confirmed the woman’s death at the hospital. The two children remain hospitalized as their conditions are being monitored.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and police have indicated that they will question the driver deemed responsible for the crash as part of their ongoing inquiry. As a result of this tragic event, the national road death toll has risen to one this year, a concerning increase from the same period last year, which recorded no fatalities.

This incident highlights the continued need for road safety awareness while underscoring the risks associated with vehicular traffic in the area. As the community comes to terms with this loss, it serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of responsible driving practices.
