“Facebook Scam Alert: Woman Charged for Deceptive Financial Gain”

A 43-year-old woman appeared in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today, facing charges of allegedly obtaining financial advantage by deception through a false Facebook advertisement.

The accused allegedly persuaded the victim to send $80 to secure her investment. Subsequently, the victim was asked to send an additional $200 in order to receive a promised profit of $200.

Growing suspicious, the victim contacted her mobile service provider and reported the incident to the Tavua Police Station.

The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Authorities advise the public to verify the details of individuals or institutions before sending money. Most legitimate entities do not conduct business via phone or messaging platforms, and caution is urged when responding to such requests online.
