A dialogue forum titled “Development in Indonesia: Lessons Learned from Papua and for the Pacific” took place in Suva, Fiji, bringing together a wide array of participants aimed at fostering development discussions. The forum focused on the notable advancements in the Indonesian province of Papua, showcasing its vibrant local culture and development achievements.
Notable speakers from Papua shared valuable insights into the region’s social and economic progress. The event attracted a diverse audience, including church leaders, community representatives, alumni from the Indonesia Scholarship Fiji, local students, government officials, NGOs, Indonesian students in Fiji, think tanks, media, and members of the Fiji Indonesia Friendship Association.
Ambassador Dupito Simamora emphasized the importance of fostering interactive engagement among distinguished speakers from both Indonesia and Fiji, aiming to inspire thought-provoking discussions and fresh perspectives on sustainable development that could benefit both regions.
Sokovoli Ordovakavula, a civil engineer and president of the Indonesia Scholarship Fiji Alumni, noted that many development initiatives are unique to Papua and could offer valuable lessons for the Fijian government’s efforts in enhancing social and economic progress.
Furthermore, Serupepeli Udre, Acting Director for Assets and Infrastructure Services at the Ministry of Education, addressed previous and potential bilateral collaborations between Indonesia and Fiji, highlighting opportunities for future initiatives in Fiji’s national development plans.
