Sam Levinson, the creator of the acclaimed HBO Max series “Euphoria,” recently provided insights into the upcoming season during an event in London. He addressed the significant time jump that fans have been curious about, revealing that the young adult characters—portrayed by Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney—have matured over the five years since Season 2 aired in early 2022. Levinson stated that this timeline felt natural, given that the characters would likely have graduated from college by then.
In the new season, Zendaya’s character Rue finds herself in Mexico, grappling with a debt to Laurie, played by Martha Kelly, and is looking for creative solutions to settle it. As for Cassie, played by Sweeney, she is engaged to Nate, portrayed by Elordi, and living in the suburbs. Levinson described Cassie as being consumed by social media, feeling envious of the glamorous lives of her high school peers, with their wedding promised to be a standout event in the series.
Schafer’s character Jules will be pursuing her artistic ambitions in art school, while Alexa Demie’s Maddy is set to make her mark in Hollywood, working at a talent agency. Additionally, Maude Apatow’s Lexi will be assisting a showrunner, played by Sharon Stone, further showcasing the diverse career paths of the characters.
Levinson expressed great enthusiasm for the upcoming season, asserting it to be the best yet. The series has made history in the past, particularly through Zendaya’s groundbreaking Emmy wins for her role, making her the youngest actress to achieve this honor twice.
However, the new season will see the absence of several actors, including Austin Abrams, Barbie Ferreira, Algee Smith, and Storm Reed. Tragically, Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco, passed away at the age of 25 in 2023. Joining the cast for Season 3 will be singer Rosalía and influencer Trisha Paytas, with the premiere scheduled for April.
