Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has clarified recent claims on social media regarding its legal actions against the Construction, Energy & Timber Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF). The company strongly refutes these claims, asserting that they are misleading and factually incorrect.
EFL’s General Manager of Human Resources, Randhir Charan, emphasized that the current legal proceedings are not related to an industrial dispute, but rather a defamation case filed at the Lautoka High Court on December 24, 2025. This filing occurred prior to the Union’s issuance of a Notice of Strike. The legal action pertains to allegedly defamatory statements made by CETWUF General Secretary John Paul, which EFL claims have harmed the reputation of both its Chief Executive Officer and the GM of Human Resources.
Charan noted that these proceedings do not concern employment conditions or workplace issues. He further stated that EFL had made multiple requests for an apology and the retraction of the statements disseminated through a CETWUF Viber group and an email dated May 14, 2025, but these requests were not honored.
Additionally, Charan pointed out that the concerns outlined in the Notice of Strike are already under consideration by the Arbitration Court in Trade Dispute No. 4 of 2025, and EFL is prepared to await the court’s findings. EFL respects the judicial process and urges all employees, including union members, to maintain professionalism as the legal matters progress.
This situation underscores the complexities within labor relations and the importance of clear communication in resolving disputes. EFL’s commitment to a fair process reflects a balanced approach to addressing issues while maintaining the dignity of all parties involved.
