Assistant Minister for Women Sashi Kiran is calling on women to be more supportive of one another, particularly those who feel vulnerable on social media.
Ms. Kiran expressed concern that women often concentrate on each other’s shortcomings, sharing private information that should remain confidential, which contributes to a culture of undermining each other.
“Many say they don’t feel emotionally supported, which is strange, given the abundance of support groups available,” Ms. Kiran remarked.
“Most women disclose that if they share a problem, it is likely to be made public.”
She emphasized the importance of confidentiality for ensuring women feel secure in sharing their experiences.
Ms. Kiran pointed out that women frequently focus on negativity towards one another.
“None of us is perfect. Women face trolling and humiliation on social media, and often, it is fellow women who contribute to this humiliation.”
She urged for an environment where women can freely express themselves without the fear of ridicule.
Ms. Kiran encouraged women to unite in uplifting one another, stating, “We should really love each other and provide support when someone is feeling down.”
