Empowering Women through Sustainable Fishing Initiatives in Taveuni

The Minister of Fisheries, Alitia Bainivalu, has provided a boat and a fibreglass license to the women’s association known as Nasomo Ra Marama in Somosomo, Taveuni. This donation aims to support women in enhancing their business in the sea cucumber industry, a vital source of income for these local women.

The minister expressed gratitude for the support received from the government, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure the sustainability of this industry. Bainivalu commended the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) for their engagement and support in enhancing local livelihood opportunities through the value-added processes in marine products.
