Reena Govind, a dedicated entrepreneur and mother of five, plans to utilize new catering support equipment provided by the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection to enhance her food business. Recently, she received a stove and a water urn from Minister Sashi Kiran, who emphasized the importance of assisting those in marginalized communities to reduce reliance on financial aid.

With her business running for two years, Reena serves local clients by taking food orders, preparing items such as beans, roti parcels, and palau—a savory dish combining meat, fragrant spices, and rice. She expressed gratitude for the timely support, stating, “Now we can earn more money, buy our house, and save for the future.”

Minister Kiran highlighted that two major income-generating projects, including the provided equipment and a sewing and tailoring initiative worth over $19,000, aim to empower women in the Koroipita community, promoting economic independence and reducing vulnerability among women and children.

The community support, particularly from Koroipita residents, has been pivotal in Reena’s journey, as she and her husband plan to expand their offerings to include tea and juice alongside more diverse dishes like chop suey. This collaboration reflects a growing recognition of the capabilities within these communities and the government’s commitment to fostering gender equity and economic opportunity.

The initiatives underscore a hopeful outlook for Koroipita, encouraging resilience and innovation as it navigates toward sustainable economic growth. Reena and her community exemplify how targeted support can uplift families and strengthen community bonds, leading to improved livelihoods and greater independence.
