Women in the villages of Nasoki, Vadra, Keteira, and Cakova in Moala are embracing new opportunities through a groundbreaking program focused on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection and supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to equip women with essential skills in areas like bookkeeping, marketing, branding, inventory management, and savings strategies.

The program’s approach includes group discussions that promote collaboration and allow participants to share their insights and learn from one another. Akemi Nagahara, a JICA volunteer, highlighted the significance of the program, noting that financial literacy and effective business management are fundamental for developing sustainable livelihoods. This initiative empowers women to take control of their economic futures, positively impacting their lives and those of their families.

One of the participants, Jiajiana Vulaono from Cakova village, expressed her newfound confidence in running a small business thanks to the training. “Now, I feel confident in keeping records and planning ahead. This knowledge will change how I support my family,” she shared.

Additionally, participants received information on crucial social welfare services and assistance programs. The initiative also included awareness campaigns led by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Fiji Police, and the Department of Children under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection.

This program is part of a broader government effort to promote gender equality and empower women in the community, while also working to alleviate poverty.

Overall, this program signifies hope and progress towards women’s empowerment and community development, fostering skills that can lead to sustained economic growth and improved living standards for families.
