This week, the University of the South Pacific (USP) will host graduation ceremonies at Vodafone Arena in Suva, with over 63 percent of the 1,880 graduating students being women. This celebration recognizes the scholastic achievements of 1,202 female graduates among the total.

Graduation events kicked off yesterday, featuring 596 graduates from various disciplines including the School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (STEMP), the School of Business and Management (SBM), and the School of Agriculture, Geography, Environment, Oceans and Natural Sciences (SAGEONS). The celebrations will continue today, honoring graduates from other schools.

USP’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, acknowledged the graduates’ hard work and perseverance, stating that this milestone signifies not the end of their educational journey but a new chapter filled with opportunities. “Today marks a milestone in your journey of learning and personal growth… you are writing your story with diligence, passion, and perseverance,” he noted.

Highlighting the personal stories of graduates, Jessie Mule Siga, who obtained her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, shared her emotional journey, having lost her father early in her studies. “It’s a bittersweet moment. But I’m happy that all the hard work from the three years of study has paid off,” she remarked, expressing gratitude towards her family for their support.

The ceremonies are reflective not only of individual achievements but also of the collective academic growth within the region, showcasing the dedication of institutions like USP in fostering educated individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

This week’s graduation ceremonies serve as a hopeful reminder of the positive impact that education can have on individuals and the community at large, as these new graduates prepare to embark on their professional journeys, ready to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
