Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the family’s primary breadwinner for the last two decades. She was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, who recently graduated with a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy.
The training, which lasted three days, was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the PRB. Ms. Naturaga, a mother of two, shared her hopes for the future, noting her completion of Year 12 at Nadi SKM College. She initially worked at a pizza restaurant before becoming a machinist at Ghimli Textiles, a position she held until the business closed in 2006. With her husband working as an electrician, she is eager to take on greater responsibilities at home.
She highlighted that the training series was tailored to equip both aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners with vital knowledge and skills crucial for success in a competitive market. “This study has been very handy for me as it has broadened my knowledge for my aspirations in business,” Ms. Naturaga stated. She aspires to start skills-based businesses focusing on fabric and tie-dye.
This training marked the first literacy program for PRB tenants in the western region, with additional sessions scheduled for tenants in Nadi and Lautoka in the coming months.
Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa praised the participants and encouraged them to implement what they had learned in their daily lives. “The training provides essential insights into business management, financial literacy, and market linkages, aiming to promote entrepreneurial growth among MSMEs and create networking opportunities,” said Mr. Nalumisa. He described the topics covered, which include marketing plans, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, and profit.
