The Fiji Development Bank (FDB) recently engaged in a collaborative business workshop organized by Film Fiji and the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications (MCTTT). The event, held at the Corner Café in Nadi, attracted 30 participants from the local film industry, aimed at empowering them to explore small business opportunities that could spur economic growth within the sector.

During the workshop, FDB was represented by Nadi branch members, Mohammed Jaffar and Nilishma Sharma, who shared insights on the bank’s entrepreneurial loan products, such as the Loan for Women Entrepreneurs and the Small and Medium Enterprise Sustainability Package. They underscored the importance of financial literacy as a vital skill for achieving business success.

MCTTT representatives introduced the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP), which piqued the interest of attendees. This initiative works alongside financial institutions like FDB to offer comprehensive support to entrepreneurs, enhancing their capabilities.

FDB CEO, Filimone Waqabaca, emphasized the partnership’s significance, stating that it aims to provide access, exposure, and resources to emerging talent in the industry. “We’ve been working with the Ministry of Trade on this programme for a while and have assisted many entrepreneurs in fulfilling their business dreams. Collaborating with Film Fiji, which is crucial for showcasing our cultural identity globally, makes this partnership particularly meaningful for FDB,” he remarked.

This initiative aligns with FDB’s ongoing efforts to support small artisans and contribute to the growth of Fiji’s cultural industry. By enabling local entrepreneurs to expand into new markets, FDB aims to strengthen Fiji’s economic landscape, fostering a hopeful vision for the future of the country’s creative sectors.

In a broader context, this kind of support reflects a commitment to uplifting local economies and cultivating a vibrant entrepreneurship culture in Fiji, showcasing the potential for growth when institutions come together for the common good.
