Outsource Fiji is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to enhance the employability of graduates by focusing on essential soft skills needed in the workforce. According to President Morika Hunter, the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) necessitates a strategic approach to productivity in these fields. She emphasized that adapting to technological advancements is crucial for maintaining a competitive and dynamic outsourcing sector.
Hunter announced plans to launch several initiatives aimed at improving skills and facilitating smoother transitions for graduates into visible job opportunities, including a careers fair designed to connect recent graduates with potential employers. The aim is to tap into existing local capabilities and ensure the sector can meet evolving market demands effectively.
Executive Director Josefa Wivou highlighted the significance of developing strong leadership skills within the industry, especially against the backdrop of an ongoing exodus of staff to overseas opportunities. Investing in effective leadership is considered vital not only for the industry’s sustainability but also for its competitiveness on the global stage.
These developments follow the government’s recent commitment to the outsourcing sector, which includes a notable budget allocation of $1.2 million aimed at creating more job opportunities and enhancing the industry’s growth prospects. Both Hunter and Wivou have expressed optimism that such collaborations will significantly bolster the sector, boosting Fiji’s position as a prime outsourcing destination and improving job stability for local workers.
In alignment with broader goals, Outsource Fiji’s initiatives are also focused on inclusivity, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to women and individuals with disabilities. With a strong emphasis on training and skill enhancement, Fiji is poised for a bright future in the outsourcing industry, signifying a positive outlook for both economic growth and job creation.
Overall, the strategic focus on skill development and leadership, alongside a supportive government framework, bodes well for the advancement of Fiji’s outsourcing sector, empowering local talent and fostering a vibrant economic landscape.
