Farmers need proper tools and infrastructure to succeed, emphasized Tomasi Tunabuna, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, during a visit to the Mataqali Sasa beef farm in the Northern Division. His visit highlighted the government’s dedication to empowering rural livestock farmers with essential support aimed at increasing both productivity and sustainability in the beef sector.
The Sasa Village farm has benefited from the 2023/2024 Commercial Agriculture Development Programme, recently receiving fencing kits from the Ministry of Agriculture. These resources are designed to improve livestock security, management, and overall farm efficiency. Mr. Tunabuna pointed out that the success of beef farming in this region hinges on two critical factors: feed and fencing.
In addition to providing equipment, the government seeks to establish resilient agricultural systems that sustain livelihoods and stimulate economic growth. Tunabuna urged local farmers to form cooperatives to strengthen their market presence, enhance bargaining power, and develop stable supply chains for both local and export markets. Farmer Setoki Draunibaka praised the support from the ministry, noting that the new fencing has significantly improved herd management and reduced livestock losses, enabling better planning for future growth.
