Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the main provider for their family for the last 20 years. The resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga in Bua was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, who recently graduated with a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy.
The three-day training program was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the PRB. Ms. Naturaga, a mother of two, shared her hopes, recalling her completion of Year 12 education at Nadi SKM College. She previously worked at a pizza restaurant and later at Ghimli Textiles as a machinist until the business shut down in 2006. With her husband working as an electrician, she desires to take on more responsibilities to assist him.
She noted that the training series was comprehensive and intended to provide aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners with essential knowledge and skills to succeed in today’s competitive market. “This study has been very helpful for me as it has expanded my understanding for my business aspirations,” remarked Ms. Naturaga. She expressed interest in pursuing skills-based ventures, particularly in fabric and tie-dye.
This training marked the first literacy initiative for PRB tenants in the western region, with additional sessions planned for Nadi and Lautoka tenants in the near future. Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to implement their new skills in everyday life. “The training delivers key insights into business management, financial literacy, and market connections, aimed at fostering entrepreneurial growth among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and facilitating networking opportunities,” stated Mr. Nalumisa. He added that the curriculum includes various topics such as marketing strategies, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, and profitability.
