Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the family’s primary provider for the last 20 years. The resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga, Bua, was one of 15 tenants from Simla in Lautoka to receive a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy last week.
The three-day training program was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in partnership with the Public Rental Board (PRB). Ms. Naturaga, a mother of two, shared her hopes for the future while reflecting on her Year 12 education at Nadi SKM College. She began her professional journey working at a pizza restaurant before becoming a machinist at Ghimli Textiles, a position she held until the company shut down in 2006.
With her husband employed as an electrician, she is eager to take on additional responsibilities to contribute to the family. She noted that the training series was intended to empower both aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners with vital skills needed to succeed in a competitive marketplace.
“This study has been very helpful for me as it has expanded my understanding for my business goals,” Ms. Naturaga stated. “I plan to explore skills-based businesses like fabric and tie-dye.”
This training marked the inaugural literacy program for PRB tenants in the west, with further training sessions scheduled for tenants in Nadi and Lautoka in the months ahead. Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa congratulated the graduates and urged them to implement what they learned in their daily routines.
“The training offers crucial insights into business management, financial literacy, and market networking, which aims to foster entrepreneurial development among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” Mr. Nalumisa said. “The curriculum includes various subjects such as marketing strategies, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, and profitability.”
