Paulina Naturaga aims to support her husband, who has been the family’s primary income earner for the last twenty years.
The resident of Naivaka, Nawakasiga in Bua was one of 15 tenants from the Public Rental Board (PRB) in Simla, Lautoka, to graduate with a Certificate of Participation in Financial Literacy last week.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade, in partnership with the PRB, organized the three-day training.
Ms. Naturaga, a mother of two, shared her ambition and recalled her education, having completed Year 12 at Nadi SKM College. She initially worked at a pizza restaurant before becoming a machinist at Ghimli Textiles, where she remained until the business shut down in 2006.
Her husband works as an electrician, and she expressed her desire to help him by taking on more responsibilities.
She noted that the training significantly enhanced her knowledge and fueled her business aspirations. “This study has been very handy for me as it has broadened my knowledge for my aspirations in business,” Ms. Naturaga stated. She is interested in starting skills-based ventures such as fabric and tie-dye.
This session marks the first financial literacy training for PRB tenants in the western region, with plans for additional sessions in Nadi and Lautoka in the upcoming months.
Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government, congratulated the participants and urged them to implement the skills and knowledge acquired during the training in their daily lives.
“The training provides essential insights into business management, financial literacy, and market linkages, aiming to promote entrepreneurial growth among MSMEs and create networking opportunities,” Mr. Nalumisa explained. “The program covers various topics including marketing plans, business culture, recordkeeping, cash flow management, pricing, profit, and more.”
