During the recent 7th Women Expo 2025 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Litia Naitanui, spokesperson for the Women With Disabilities Rewa Branch, encouraged attendees to focus on their abilities rather than disabilities. She emphasized the importance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone to explore opportunities and connect with other women.
Naitanui, representing her branch at the National Women’s Expo, showcased a variety of hand-made crafts from women with disabilities, including scented oils, traditional fans, and jewelry made from recycled materials, embracing the concept of “Trash to Cash.” She highlighted that these products not only signify personal creativity but also reflect the collective effort of the numerous women represented at the expo.
Minister for Women, Sashi Kiran, officially opened the event, describing the expo as a vital platform for women to showcase their talents and expand their networks, ultimately leading to economic opportunities. She called upon participants to learn from one another and to inspire each other throughout the event.
Kiran noted that over a million tourists visit Fiji annually, encouraging artisans to adapt their unique creations for broader markets, which could enhance economic growth and community development. The expo is seen not just as a mere marketplace but as a celebration of women’s resilience, creativity, and contributions to society.
Echoing the sentiments expressed by Naitanui and Kiran, the expo reinforces the idea that empowered women play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and resilience in their communities. With ongoing support and resources, there’s a promising outlook for women’s rights and empowerment in Fiji—a hopeful testament to what can be achieved when diverse talents come together.
This event serves as a reminder of the progress being made in women’s empowerment and emphasizes the need for continued support to ensure that women, especially those with disabilities, can thrive socially and economically.
