GOUNDAR Shipping Ltd. celebrated the arrival of its latest vessel, the MV Captain Inoke, at Suva’s Mua-i-Walu jetty, marking an emotional homecoming for the Ratotodro family. The ship’s namesake, Captain Inoke Ratotodro, was a cherished figure in the maritime community, having dedicated over 30 years to Goundar Shipping. His legacy is honored as the ship is commissioned to enhance service on the Levuka – Natovi – Nabouwalu – Ellington route.
Managing Director George Goundar, who regarded Captain Ratotodro as a father figure, expressed deep gratitude during the ceremony. “He’ll always be regarded as my dad,” Goundar said, reflecting on their close bond and highlighting the significant influence Ratotodro had on his life and the company. The emotional gathering showcased the strong familial and community ties, with friends and relatives attending to pay tribute to the late captain.
Melaia Ratotodro, Captain Inoke’s eldest daughter, shared heartfelt remarks as she welcomed the vessel. “We may miss him dearly, but we are grateful for what the company has done,” she said, emphasizing her father’s dedication and impact on the maritime industry. The vessel is captained by Sainimere Qutonilaba, who began her career with Goundar Shipping as a cadet in 2011 and has risen through the ranks.
