Food rations provided by the government are set to begin tomorrow for those in evacuation centers in the Western Division. Currently, there are four active Evacuation Centres, sheltering a total of 61 households and 234 individuals. The centers include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.
These centers have been the recipients of donations, including cooked meals and hygiene kits, from various faith-based organizations, NGOs, and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the Fiji Red Cross has delivered dignity kits to both Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.
As a precautionary measure, public advisories have been issued, urging residents to remain prepared and avoid unnecessary risks. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are actively monitoring the situation, while the other divisional EOCs keep a close eye on the weather conditions in their regions.
A Flood Warning is currently in effect for areas vulnerable to flooding around and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. Moreover, a Flood Alert has been issued for flood-prone regions adjacent to all major rivers across Fiji.
In the event of evacuations, police officers are on standby to assist residents in flood-prone areas, and the public is advised to evacuate when necessary, preferably during daylight for safety. For assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the following numbers:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 8811322 or 8811005
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9994261

This proactive response from authorities reflects a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents during this challenging situation. With community support and collaboration from various organizations, hope remains strong for those affected.
