Investment interest is growing for the ambitious $2 billion Emerald Bay project currently taking shape at Nadawa in Nasinu, which is set to transform the area into what will be known as Emerald City. This integrated tourism development spans over 450 acres and aims to establish a fully integrated smart city that promises to redefine urban living and tourism in Fiji, as stated by Naps Developments, the project’s developer.
Bal Sundaram, the founder and managing director of Naps Developments, shared that the first phase of the residential subdivision has already commenced. He highlighted significant interest from high-profile investors who are conducting feasibility studies and due diligence to explore their potential roles in this expansive project. Once completed, the investment could reach between $2.5 billion and $3 billion.
Sundaram explained that the multi-stakeholder project is likely to unfold in ten phases, with completion expected to take anywhere from five to ten years, depending on the level of investment from stakeholders. He noted that the investment landscape in Fiji has evolved significantly since the development of Denarau, underlining that the current situation presents a different opportunity for potential investors.
International brand hotels have already expressed interest in integrating with the Emerald Bay project, signaling a strong confidence in its potential. The project’s design features a man-made canal approximately seven meters wide, which will effectively separate Emerald Bay from the existing Nadawa. This design helps create a fully gated community accessible via Qarase Rd and Nadawa Rd while still allowing public access to enjoy the serene environment.
Facilities will also include a 20,000-seat stadium and a multipurpose sporting facility, further showcasing the project’s ambition and potential to attract both local and international investments.
This development marks a significant step forward for tourism and urban living in Fiji, promising to create new opportunities and an enriched environment for residents and visitors alike. As the project progresses, it represents a hopeful future for the region’s economic landscape.
