The newly upgraded Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki was officially opened yesterday, marking a significant advancement in inter-island connectivity for the Ra community and beyond. The ceremony was attended by Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, who served as the chief guest.
According to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), this upgrade highlights the Government’s dedication to enhancing vital transport infrastructure that promotes mobility, boosts trade, and improves accessibility for all citizens. The FRA emphasized that the wharf plays a key role in linking families together, facilitating passenger movements, and enabling the efficient transportation of goods.
During his speech, Ro Filipe remarked that the upgraded facility symbolizes more than just a physical enhancement. “The reopening of Ellington Wharf underscores our broader vision to create reliable, safe, and efficient transport links across Fiji,” he stated. He further noted, “This wharf is a critical artery of economic activity, supporting local businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs by improving access to markets and reducing travel time.”
The reopening of the Ellington Wharf signals a positive transformation for the region, fostering improved economic opportunities and social connections among local communities. This development serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment of the Fijian government in investing in infrastructure that benefits its citizens.
