Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has announced a notable increase in student enrollment this year, confirming in Parliament that more than 5,000 students have joined primary and secondary schools. This positive trend includes many former dropouts returning to classrooms, providing them with opportunities to gain skills crucial for their future careers.

Radrodro expressed his satisfaction with this development, particularly emphasizing the enrollment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. The Minister reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Education to focus on retaining students throughout their educational journey.

The Minister’s announcement is complemented by a larger framework aimed at enhancing the education system, where he previously addressed issues such as teacher absenteeism and dropout rates. Radrodro has emphasized the importance of inclusive education, urging schools to ensure that all children, regardless of their academic performance, have access to schooling. This aligns with principles outlined in the 2023 Denarau Declaration, which promotes equitable education for all.

His focus on community collaboration—stating, “It takes a village to raise a child”—highlights the collective responsibility among parents, educators, and local authorities to ensure children stay engaged in their education.

Overall, this surge in student enrollment reflects a hopeful outlook for the future of education. By encouraging students who have previously dropped out to return and emphasizing vocational training, Radrodro aims to create a supportive environment that prepares youth for successful careers. The proactive measures taken by the Ministry demonstrate a commitment to fostering a more inclusive and effective education system in the region, paving the way for a brighter future for all students.
