Education Ministry officials are also implicated in the illegal drug trade. Education Ministry permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca stated that some cases were currently before the court, preventing her from commenting on the issue.
Ms. Kuruleca was questioned about the involvement of teachers in the drug trade following a police raid on an official’s home.
Police confirmed to The Fiji Times that the raid occurred recently.
“There are many cases,” Ms. Kuruleca said.
“We have cases involving some of our Ministry of Education officials.”
“Again, until I receive a full report, we cannot comment on it.”
“I cannot comment right now.”
“There are Ministry of Education officials involved; that’s all I can say. We have to work with the Solicitor-General and the court on what is happening.”
