The Ministry of Education has joined forces with the Fiji Police Force to investigate a violent altercation among students outside Nabua Secondary School that occurred yesterday afternoon. Education Minister Hon. Aseri Radrodro voiced his support for the investigation, underlining the significance of addressing such incidents, especially involving students still in their school uniforms.
Minister Radrodro condemned the behavior, highlighting that such misconduct serves as a deterrent for school leaders considering the admission of certain students and complicates the Ministry’s mission to provide equitable access to education. He emphasized that students’ right to education should not be compromised by disruptive conduct.
In his call for community involvement, the Minister urged parents, guardians, and all stakeholders to keep a close watch on students’ behavior. He affirmed that the Ministry is responsible for ensuring the overall safety of all students. Radrodro confirmed plans for the Ministry to collaborate with the Police in profiling the students involved, leading to decisions on either rehabilitating those open to positive change or imposing stricter measures, including possible bans for students who present a safety risk to others.
The Minister concluded with a hopeful message, wishing students and teachers a peaceful academic year. He urged a collective commitment to promoting respect and safety as the school year unfolds.
This incident highlights the pressing need for collaborative efforts among school authorities, parents, and law enforcement to foster a safe educational environment for all students, reinforcing the values of respect and community responsibility.
