Shoppers in Suva are embracing a new approach to back-to-school shopping this year, spreading their purchases over a longer period and avoiding the last-minute rush that typically overwhelms stores. This shift has been positively observed by the Post Fiji Suva shop team leader, Shayal Chand, who noted a consistent flow of customers a week prior to the peak shopping days.

Chand highlighted that unlike last year, when large crowds surged just before schools reopened, parents are proactively securing uniforms, stationery, and other essential items in advance. “We could clearly see the difference in foot traffic compared to last year,” she remarked, indicating that parents are taking their time to shop rather than leaving it until the last moment.

The store’s ample stock availability has contributed to easing the pressure on both shoppers and staff. “We have a huge range of stock this year, and everything has been going well so far,” Chand said. This early shopping trend has not only facilitated a smoother restocking process but also ensured that customers are able to find what they need without hassle.

Chand added that many parents are preparing ahead for anticipated government assistance instead of waiting for it to become available, which is also noteworthy. “Compared to last year, people are already buying even before the assistance comes in. That has made a big difference during this period,” she explained.

The calm shopping environment is benefiting both customers and staff, with the store running smoothly so far. This trend illustrates a positive change in consumer behavior that may lead to a more organized and less stressful shopping experience each back-to-school season in Suva.
