A 37-year-old man from Lautoka has been taken into police custody following a serious accident caused by driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on Sukanaivalu Road, where the man lost control of his vehicle and struck a 40-year-old account clerk who was standing nearby. The clerk is currently receiving medical treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital, while the driver remains in custody.
In an unrelated event on the same day, another 37-year-old man from Kuku, Bau, Tailevu, also lost control of his vehicle on Knolly Street and crashed into a concrete retaining wall. This driver was also under the influence of alcohol and has been admitted to CWM Hospital for care.
Authorities are currently conducting traffic investigations into both of these incidents.
