The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua kicked off their Super W season with an impressive win, defeating the NSW Waratahs 23-17 in a highly competitive match at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. This victory is especially sweet for the Drua, as it serves as revenge for their previous year’s grand final loss to the same team.

The match showcased the Drua’s strong performance, spearheaded by vice-captain Vitalina Naikore, who scored one of the fastest tries in Super W history, finding the try line just 10 seconds into the game. Luisa Tisolo played a pivotal role as well, converting penalties and adding to the score realistically early on, which allowed the Drua to establish a commanding 20-5 lead by halftime.

The team displayed relentless pressure during the game, particularly in the scrums, and their disciplined tackling allowed them to maintain possession and force turnovers. Namosi player Josivini Naihamu also had a stellar performance at center, earning a try that further solidified their lead.

Head Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized the importance of continuing to build on this success as they prepare to host the Reds next Saturday in Lautoka. The Drua hope to maintain their momentum and further their legacy, having won the Super W title in both 2022 and 2023.

Fans can look forward to seeing the Drua build on this strong foundation as they advance in the season, with the combination of returning champions and emerging talent providing a hopeful outlook for the future of women’s rugby in Fiji and the Pacific region. There’s every reason for optimism as the team looks to deepen their commitment to excellence and continue their journey in women’s rugby.
