The HFC Bank Stadium’s dry and patchy conditions will not impact the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s ability to host their Super Rugby home matches in 2026, according to Drua’s CEO Mark Evans. He emphasized that since the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season is still several months away, any current issues with the stadium surface are not cause for concern.

Evans acknowledged the less-than-ideal conditions for playing multiple matches in close proximity but insisted that such circumstances can be unavoidable. Reflecting on last Saturday’s game between the Flying Fijians and Scotland, he shared that it was a thrilling encounter, despite potential stadium challenges.

On the topic of a new stadium, Evans indicated that the Drua is not actively pursuing one but mentioned that initial explorations are being undertaken. He expressed a belief that refurbishing an existing facility may be less sensible than constructing a new one.

In a related development, Ponipate Loganimasi has joined Mesake Doge and Mesake Vocevoce as the third Fijian Drua player selected for the First Nations and Pasifika XV squad, as they prepare to face the British & Irish Lions next Tuesday. This is a positive sign for the Drua, showcasing their growing talent pool and connections to elite rugby.

The facts highlight a growing resilience and adaptability within the Drua organization, aiming to maintain a strong presence in the Super Rugby landscape despite challenges.
