Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson is calling on his squad to harness their abilities and finish the season on a strong note, despite their challenging Super Rugby Pacific campaign and slim chances for playoff qualification. With just four matches left to play, Jackson is emphasizing the importance of clean execution, discipline, and national pride as they approach the final games.

Following a difficult loss to Moana Pasifika, where the Drua struggled with 19 turnovers, Jackson highlighted ball retention as a key area that necessitates improvement. “We had clean opportunities against Moana, as we have in every game, but those turnovers mean you don’t win,” Jackson noted. He expressed the need for his players to realize their potential by believing in themselves and maintaining possession for their supporters.

Although a top-six finish seems out of reach, Jackson remains hopeful for a late push for the playoffs. He has urged his team to aim for the maximum 16 points available from their final three matches, which could keep their playoff dreams alive depending on other teams’ outcomes.

In preparation for the upcoming Round 12 clash against the Queensland Reds in Suva, Jackson has made significant changes to the lineup. Vuate Karawalevu has been named as outside centre, while Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula shifts to fullback. Kemu Valetini will take on the flyhalf position, forming a new pairing with Simione Kuruvoli at scrumhalf. This new backline configuration aims to invigorate the Drua’s attacking play as the season draws to a close.

The bench will feature a forward-heavy 6-2 split, including co-captain Tevita Ikanivere among the reserves and seasoned tight-head Mesake Doge leading the charge from the front row. The Drua’s match against the Reds is set for 2:05pm at HFC Bank Stadium, following a compelling matchup between the Vodafone Fijiana and the Wallaroos later that day.

As the Drua gear up for this pivotal encounter, both the team’s spirit and the support from their passionate fanbase could become crucial in lifting their performance and morale. With this strong emphasis on community backing combined with strategic adjustments, there is an invigorating sense of hope that this stretch could mark a turnaround in their Super Rugby Pacific journey.
