Frustration is mounting for the Fijian Drua as they battle for a place in the top six of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season. Head coach Glen Jackson acknowledged that the team’s poor starts have been a continuous issue, behind their recent struggles. He emphasized the critical need to begin games more effectively, particularly as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Waratahs.

“We have to win and keep winning,” said Jackson, acknowledging the team’s inability to capitalize on their opportunities in previous matches, including a painful 43-20 loss to the Highlanders. The coach expressed that it’s exhausting to keep saying they should have won after every loss.

Despite the setbacks, Jackson remains optimistic about the team’s quality, noting that they’ve shown glimpses of being a strong side at various points in their matches. However, he recognizes that individual errors and team mistakes have been costly. He pointed out that starting well at home is crucial for building a competitive edge against the Waratahs, who recently showcased strong performances.

The upcoming match is pivotal for the Drua, particularly with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. Jackson highlighted that the team must not only perform but also prove to their supporters that they can compete in the league, especially after experiencing disappointing results this season.

Adding to the challenging atmosphere, injuries have sidelined co-captains Ratu Meli Derenalagi and Frank Lomani, which significantly affects the team’s leadership on the field. Jackson acknowledged these difficulties but is determined to motivate the remaining players to step up and seize their opportunity.

The Drua have six matches left to salvage their season, beginning with the Waratahs before facing off against Moana Pasifika in Auckland. The team aims to rally, harnessing the support of their fans to create momentum in their final stretch of the competition.

With a renewed commitment and a focus on learning from past mistakes, the Fijian Drua strive to inspire hope and ambition among their supporters. They have the chance to turn around their season and emerge stronger despite adversity. The determination within the squad, coupled with community backing, could lead to a much-needed victory and a brighter outlook as they conclude this season of Super Rugby Pacific.
