Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta has returned to New Zealand for personal reasons, confirmed by head coach Glen Jackson. Cirikidaveta is currently managing a knee injury while also supporting his wife, who is about to give birth. Jackson emphasized the importance of family, stating, “It was the right thing to do instead of being here and then have his wife having a baby and him not being home with her.”

Cirikidaveta, who has been an integral part of the Drua since joining in 2022, has made 28 appearances and represented Fiji with the Flying Fijians from 2022 to 2023. His contributions have been significant, and Jackson expressed appreciation for his efforts over the past three years, showing the team’s commitment to player well-being.

The Drua are looking to bounce back after two narrow losses in their recent matches, acknowledging the need to perform better during critical moments. Jackson believes that while the team’s bench needs to step up, overall, their spirit remains resilient. Highlighting the team’s effort against strong opponents, such as their recent close match against the Hurricanes, he stated, “Both games we could have won and probably should have won.”

Looking forward to their upcoming match against the Waratahs, the Drua are channeling positivity despite recent setbacks. Jackson underscored the necessity of bonus points, which could be essential for their standing this season. The team’s mental resilience has been commendable, especially in navigating challenges like unexpected disruptions during their travels.

With a mix of emerging talents and returning players, including the anticipated comeback of Etonia Waqa, the Drua’s squad aims to deliver a complete performance. Fans remain hopeful for a spirited display as the team adapts to the ongoing competitive landscape in Super Rugby Pacific. The Drua’s focus on family values, player welfare, and meticulous game preparation serves as a beacon of optimism for their supporters.
