Coach Glen Jackson has announced a significant shake-up to the Fijian Drua’s starting lineup ahead of their match against the Hurricanes this Saturday at McLean Park, Napier. The coach has opted for 13 changes from the squad that narrowly lost to the ACT Brumbies, indicative of the team’s drive to improve after a challenging start to the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

In a notable move, co-captain Tevita Ikanivere will be absent from the matchday squad entirely, while prolific try-scorer Iosefo Masi is set to join the action from the bench. The alterations include an entirely new backline, reflecting Jackson’s determination to freshen the team dynamic and boost overall performance.

The revamped pack features Emosi Tuqiri, Zuriel Togiatama, and Mesake Doge in the front row. Lock Mesake Vocevoce retains his spot alongside Isoa Nasilasila, while the back row is rounded out by Meli Derenalagi, Motikiai Murray, and Ella Canakaivata.

Team co-captain Frank Lomani will lead the half-back pairing alongside Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, a 2024 Flying Fijians debutant who is set to make his first start this season. The midfield will be anchored by Inia Tabuavou and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre, with wingers Taniela Rakuro and Junior Ratuva, alongside fullback Ilaisa Droasese, rounding out the backline.

With both teams hungry for their first victory of the season after opening losses—Drua’s loss to the Brumbies and the Hurricanes narrowly falling to the Crusaders—there is a palpable sense of urgency in the air. Jackson has reiterated the need for discipline and effective breakdown management, areas that will be crucial in their attempts to secure victory against a tenacious Hurricanes side.

In past meetings, the Drua have struggled, but with a blend of fresh talent and determined veterans, this match presents a crucial opportunity to not only gain points but also build momentum for the duration of the season. Fans are optimistic, as the team’s resilience and fresh surge of energy could result in a turnaround against a strong opponent.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3:35 PM FJT this Saturday, and supporters are encouraged to rally behind the Drua as they look to harness their spirit and strive for an uplifting victory that can set a positive course for the remainder of the season.
