Swire Shipping Fijian Drua co-captain Temo Mayanavanua has highlighted the need for improved discipline following their challenging round one encounter against Moana Pasifika in Lautoka. In a match where the Drua struggled initially, Mayanavanua noted that Moana Pasifika came out strong and dominated the early phases, putting the Drua on the back foot.

Acknowledging the opposition’s performance, Mayanavanua commended his teammates for their resilience in raising their intensity and fighting back into contention. “They started really well. They’re a quality outfit and they brought it to us. I’ll give credit to the boys for pulling their socks up and fighting hard,” he stated.

Despite the effort, the lock admitted that lapses in discipline proved detrimental, allowing Moana Pasifika to exploit their errors effectively. “Discipline is the first one. They were able to capitalise on our mistakes and they did really well in the right parts of the field,” he explained.

With a quick turnaround of just six days before facing the Waratahs in Sydney, Mayanavanua emphasized the importance of tightening their discipline. “The Waratahs are a good team. I watched their game last night. Going into the next round, our discipline really needs to improve,” he remarked.

In addition to focusing on the game, Mayanavanua expressed gratitude to the loyal supporters in Lautoka, apologizing for not meeting their performance expectations. “Words cannot explain how grateful we are. We’re sorry we couldn’t perform to your expectations, but we’ll go back, fix our mistakes and come back harder,” he said.

As the Drua prepare for their next match, discipline remains a critical point of focus. They will face the Waratahs next Friday at 8:35 PM, with the match set to be broadcast live on FBC Sports. Fans and supporters are hopeful the team can learn from their mistakes and improve in the upcoming round.
