Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, underscored the essential role of productivity in promoting economic growth. Speaking at the 65th Workshop Meeting of Heads of National Productivity Organisations held at the Sofitel Resort in Nadi, he pointed out that productivity serves as a key driver of GDP per capita in various nations.
Kamikamica noted positive signs of recovery in global and Pacific productivity, reporting a global increase of 1.2% and an expected growth rate of 1.8% for the Pacific region in 2023. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address contemporary challenges such as economic resilience and sustainability.
He stated, “Fiji’s Government is actively enhancing productivity through various initiatives, focusing on tackling labor shortages, modernizing policies, and diversifying the economy.” Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed the establishment of a national Productivity Commission in Fiji, drawing inspiration from successful international models, to conduct research and offer tailored policy solutions.
