Allegations surrounding Assistant Police Commissioner Operations Livai Driu’s involvement in the illegal drug trade are currently being treated as unverified claims, according to Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. He emphasized that Driu will undergo a thorough investigative process, akin to that of seven other officers who are also facing similar allegations.
Reports have emerged of Viber chats on social media that purportedly display messages from Driu within a group chat linked to individuals involved in the illicit drug trade. Despite the seriousness of the claims, Commissioner Tudravu has made it clear that the authenticity of the messages must be verified before any action is taken.
“I’ve stated what we are doing in relation to the investigation into the Viber messages being shared on social media, and this includes the latest,” Tudravu said regarding the allegations. He reiterated his commitment to due diligence, stating that officers will continue their duties unless solid evidence emerges. “Public opinion is not evidence,” he remarked, reinforcing the need for concrete proof before drawing any conclusions.
This situation highlights the importance of balancing public concern with the necessity of thorough investigations to ensure justice and maintain the integrity of the police force. The approach taken by Commissioner Tudravu reflects a commitment to uphold the principles of due process, even amidst rising public scrutiny.
