The University of the South Pacific (USP) has recognized a significant surge in demand for student accommodation at its Laucala Campus, surpassing the available capacity. This heightened demand is especially pronounced at the start of the academic year, as many students seek housing.

In a statement issued to FBC News, the university elaborated on its accommodation allocation process, highlighting that room assignments are governed by established criteria aimed at ensuring fairness among applicants. Priority is notably given to students traveling from outside of Suva and those coming from other regional member countries.

Alongside addressing accommodation needs, USP is committed to enhancing its core services and tackling longstanding maintenance challenges across its facilities. The university also emphasized that the remuneration and benefits for its officers are set in accordance with approved policies, adhering to internal controls and audit processes that form part of its governance and financial oversight framework.

This proactive approach reflects USP’s dedication to supporting its student body while maintaining a transparent and accountable administrative structure. The university’s ongoing efforts aim not only to address immediate housing challenges but also to strengthen overall campus services for an improved educational experience.
